Thank you Hilary for your answers.

At the end, I migrated the form from web form 2007 to web form and replace the data connection based on the udcx files into a data connection pointing to the library using ordering and filter the values, which wasn't possible with the 2007 version because it didn't have those options and then, republish the form.

From this page, he said the following and I think this is what happened, and some rules are not working properly as before, so, I will have to check this in the future.

Thank you for your help, unfortunately I can't share the form.

I changed a rule and I deleted another rule to see if this solves the issue, but not.

I will have to check the data connections that are stored in a document library, but those data connections are pointing to the PRD environment, I am working on the TQA environment. How can I modify the data connections from the form, I think I have to unzip it, I saw something on a post regarding that and perhaps I will have to try to upgrade to Infopath 2010, I will also try to update the form type fromo web browser form (infopath 2007) to web browser form to see if this helps a little. Is there any document with steps by steps to migrate a form from 2007 to 2010 at least for example, how to migrate the data connections, do this first than migrating the form. I am using InfoPath 2010 to open this form.

So - I'm still unsure when you query the data source. I assume the query is not always running correctly since the drop down doesn't always have options. I guess if this were mine and I were troubleshooting, I'd put the data fields for the secondary data connection on the form somewhere and add a button that executes the query and just try running the query in the browser a bunch of times to see if it fails. :) If the control is conditionally formatted (I'm not sure what you mean by a rule that "activates" the field), I'd try setting postback to "always" on any controls that would affect the control being enabled.

Yes, when you select a value from another field, then, there is a rule that activates this field based on a data connection. We used the data connection in order to get the values from a view of a sharepoint list, basically to show the values sorted and we had a filter where you can check (yes/no) for active and the view shows values sorted and only the ones where we have the checkmark for active.

I have this on the log;

Cached UDC file 'dataAdapter_https://xxx.udcx3mqrxVO07rq5jPg4BeZzvcpYnQ1MCAuqM2J19J2cLI' is removed from cache. Reason: Expired

Then, I have opened the form again and this time the connection worked for once, since this is random, I loaded again and it is failing.

Can I see a copy of your form? You can attach it under the options tab in a reply. I'm trying to find out when the query that provides the data to the drop down runs. Is it on load? On the change of another field? Are there any filters on the drop down values?

Thank you. This field is activated when another field is populated, then this field pointing to a data connection becomes active but doesn't pull the values from the data connection. It happens to all users and it is random.

I have fixed the superuser account thing on the server but the issue remains.

I have activated verbose for infopath form services and with the ULS viewer regarding the data connection for that field, I only have the following;

DataObject.Serialize.Save for XML name:Project Manager Approvers Source finished in:00:00:00.0003634.

When does the query for the data connection run? On form load? on a field change? I'd be looking for log entries that mention the data connection....

Thank you for your help, in the logs I have this event 7362 web content management

Object Cache: The super user account utilized by the cache is not configured. This can increase the number of cache misses, which causes the page requests to consume unneccesary system resources.
To configure the account use the following command 'stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname portalsuperuseraccount -propertyvalue account -url webappurl'. The account should be any account that has Full Control access to the SharePoint databases but is not an application pool account.

Can you or a SharePoint admin check the server's ULS logs to see if there is anything helpful there? Is this user specific at all (i.e., happens for some users, not all?)

I have ran the debugger and when clicking on the drop down without values, I get a warning saying the following;

Hi, this is the issue.

We had an InfoPath form on SharePoint 2007 with a lot of rules to activate/disable fields. With 3 different levels of approvals, once you pick up an approver, you submit the form. Now, the first approver comes to the form to approve as first approver, but, when he gets to the form, he has to select approve or reject and then, the field for the next approver becomes active and he can select the next approver from the list. These approvers lists are based on data connections because we wanted to have a view from a list for active/disable members and to sort the names of the approvers. Now, when comes to the part to select the next approver, we get no values from the drop down list which is based on a data connection. Now, this is random, sometimes if you click on F5 to refresh the page you can get the values from the list. We didn't use the drop down directly from the list because you can´t pick up a view from the list.

This is the information for the data connection; Format: UDC V2; Connection Type: XmlQuery; Purpose: ReadOnly; Generated by Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 on 2010-11-01 at 11:56:34

Any ideas, have you seen this behavior before?
