Not sure how to change the compatibility of the form - I designed it in IP 2010 and we are using it with SharePoint 2010. However, the form does always show in the view.

Ended up just scrapping the emailing part and implemented that via SharePoint Designer workflow.

Re: Can infopath form arrive in Outlook as a .msg rather than as .xml?

Hi Liz,

First I would try changing the setting in the email data connection that controls whether the form is attached or not and whether it shows up in the view or not. You may have to remove the connection and re-add it and specify that it should be attachment only (i.e. not send the view). There was a bug between 2007 and 2010 that resulted in forms designed with 2007 always showing in the view, so you might have to change the compatibility on the form first to 2010 or 2013 and then remove the data connection and re-add it. Make sure to back up the settings before removing it.

If that doesn't work, the only other idea would be to go into Outlook settings and see if you can configure it not to be so smart about InfoPath attachments.

Good luck!

Can infopath form arrive in Outlook as a .msg rather than as .xml?

Hello,

I am having issues with 3rd party product integration with an InfoPath 2010 form once it arrives in Outlook inbox. Problem is because it arrives as the purple icon xml type item. (I am selecting send as attachment in InfoPath data connection send options).

My 3rd party addin doesn't recognise the form item type and doesn't load when you open the form.

Is it possible just to send the xml form as an attachment to a regular email message? (If I send to my gmail address, this seems to be what happens. Outlook only sees it as InfoPath.

When I forward the item from gmail back to Outlook, it arrives as a message with the attachment as well as with the form in the body. I need this to happen from the start.)

Thanks for any assistance you can lend.

Liz
