It's our way of supporting this forum. We don't make any money off of the forum but we promise to respond to 90% of all InfoPath-related posts. qRules helps us defray some of the cost and it's good for you. We developed it as a way to quickly solve the most common problems out there. It's a developer license so you just purchase one for all of your forms.

It's $199 or $99 if you agree to give us a 3 sentence testimonial (provided it solves your problem). That's approximately the cost of an hour or two of a developer's time and you get a library that has 40 functions that you can use in all of your form templates. It's a great deal, but if you don't think so, we also guarantee a 30 day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. No wonder we have lots of happy users of it. :)

Re: Can not open file that was attach to infopath form

Dear Patrick,

It means we have to buy qRules lib, doesn't it It is very difficult for us due to limit budget.
Well, first you want to have two controls in your form - one that stores the file and another that stores a link to the file. qRules has logic to save the file attachment to a document library and replace it with a link. It just uses an OnChange event handler to trigger that. You can download the free trial of qRules 2.3 from qdabra dot com. There are documents on how to set up the form to convert your file to a link. http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/qrules/entry40104.aspx

Re: Can not open file that was attach to infopath form

Dear Patrick,

How can we use links that point to files on SharePoint? Could you explain more detail?
If not, can you please paste in the Japanese text before and after? Could be an encoding issue with the form or a bug in InfoPath.

Anyway, best practice is to use links that point to files on SharePoint so that you don't have to download a huge file as part of your XML payload and so that you can have disconnected updates to the XLS file without having to reattach to the form.

Hope some of this helps...

Can not open file that was attach to infopath form

Dear all,

We have a info path 2007 form that use File Attachment Control to upload file. The data type of this control is set base64 binary. We catch a issues that is very abnormal as bellow scenario:

Step 1) Click on the image of attachment file (Excel file), we select "Download" option. The file name of attachment file is Japanese string.

Step 2) It is displayed the File Download dialog (With message "Do you want to open or save this file?"

Step 3) Click to Open button from File Download dialog.

Step 4) There error message dialog from MS Excel inform that "If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used file, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted ".

Step 5) Click OK button on the error message dialog (of step 4), then MS Excel open with blank content.

If you see the error message dialog of step 4, you can see the file name has been change to "%E3%81%82%E3%81%88%E7%B5%90%E6%9E%9C%E3%81%AE%E3%82%A8%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%83%9D%E3%83%BC%E3%83%88%E9%A0%85%E7%9B%AE%E4%B8%80...". It is not keep the original file name that display on info path form.

We do not understand why the issues of step 4 and step 5 occurs. Have anyone who has solution for this issues?
