Upon submittal, it writes to a different 'hidden' site and library with the now formula, then closes. They will not have access to the form after submittal. (Technically they can get to it, but would need to do some searching for it). Once we get the request and modify it internally, we will save, instead of re-submit. I gave all users contribute rights to this sub site where it lives. I also gave users contribute rights to the library (only) that it writes to, but they have to be pretty savvy to get to it since all navigation is turned off of the sub site which is a pop up new window and the library that it writes to is also not indicated in the navigation. We just know where it lives and work from there.

I would use this formula in the submit control. This is to request services from our writers based on the requirements of the project. They may choose more than one at a time if they need to, but later would need to create a new form if they want another service later on down the road. 1=Email communication, 2=Job Aid, 3=Visio, 4=Letter Change, 5=SIM (another communication), 6=Procedures, 7=Other, 8=Combination (this is the 'if multiple services'), 9=Change Control.

Make sense? Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.

Re: Leading number based on checkbox

Ah, I see. What would happen to the form name if the user opened it after the form was submitted and changed how many checkboxes were selected? Could that happen?

Re: Leading number based on checkbox

Thanks. I think we are close. I may not have been clear. It is not a count, rather an absolute. It will be more like if you check 1, then leading will be 1. If you click 2, then leading will be 2 and so on. If you have more than one box clicked (any combination) then it is 8.

Right click the link to the file in the header to this post and save it locally. Right click the saved file and select Design to open in design mode. Check out the default value in field7 and preview to select some checkboxes to watch the value change.

Using a default value for a field and then setting that to the file name would probably not be a good idea (you most likely don't want it to update and end up with new files each submit!) but you could use a formula for the file name in your SharePoint data connection.

Leading number based on checkbox

Maybe I am going about this all wrong and I need a fresh set of eyes. I have a custom submit to a SP library that uses the now function upon submit. That is fine, but we name our projects with a leading number to indicate the type of request. We now go in and edit the properties to manually add the leading number and dash when we update the form, but I want to see if there is a way to get it to auto populate based on the check boxes.

The numbering system is based on the type of request indicated through check boxes. It is possible to have more than one checked. Basically, if box 1 is checked, the number of the request is 1-2010-03-17T11_45_11, if box 2 is checked, then the leading number should be 2...and so on up to 9. If more than one box is checked, the leading number should be 9.

I am a bit stumped. My approach is that I created a hidden text box to receive that first number and the dash. Then in the submit, add the value in that box plus the now function? Or is it possible to do it another way I am not thinking of?
