When creating repeating table, allocate a column
for ‘auto number’ ; make the field a calculated field (Field1 as Example), and
use this rule in the field: count(preceding-sibling::*)
+ 1

Create a format rule on the entire repeating
table, and then put condition that ‘Field1 = 4 (The Max # of Lines that i
wanted as example.)

Choose control ‘Don’t allow users to insert or
delete this control’

People can add up to the maximum you want, then
trying to click the button, it just won’t let them add.

Sooo... I have a similar issue as above. I am not creating a form from scratch out of infopath. I have to work with the form template from the sharepoint server. Having said that, it is a web based form and I cannot find a way to limit the number of rows in the repeating table in the schema file without creating an error when it opens from the Sharepoint list. Do you know if this feature is enabled in a web form?

Thanks!

*EDIT: So I have been messing around with is a little more. When ever I publish the form to the sharepoint server, somehow the schema file variable gets changed back from 3 to unbounded. Does anyone have an idea how to prevent this from happening.

Re: Limit amount of repeating table rows that can be created

Beautiful!

Re: Limit amount of repeating table rows that can be created

Hi,

I found a way to customize the message you see in the alert box after maxOccurs property is changed in the schema.xsd file. However, this I tested in browser enabled forms only.

The OOB message that gets displayed in the alert box comes from a variable "k_strValidationMaxChildCountFormat " in a javascript file called "IntlCoreStrings.Js".
This can be overwritten using the below code. Put this code in Form Loading event of form's code behind.

The default message is "A new item could not be inserted. In this form only a maximum of {0} items is allowed.". In the below example I replaced it with "Test{0}".

            string strScript = "IntlCoreStrings.k_strValidationMaxChildCountFormat = \"Test{0}\";";
            Page pgCurrent = HttpContext.Current.Handler as Page;
            if (pgCurrent != null)
            {
                ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(pgCurrent, pgCurrent.GetType(), "Alert", strScript, true);
                return;
            }

Make sure you add the references for the System.Web and System.Web.Extentions assemblies in you solution. Also, the using tags for System.Web and System.Web.UI.

I know I replied very late. But, this can help others who comes here for a solution :)

Thanks,

As far as I know, there is no upper limit. The schema for the repeating group says that the max is 'unbounded', which means.... no upper limit. Keep in mind that as your xml file increases in size (which will happen as new groups are inserted) you may eventually see some performance issues for that xml file.

Re: Limit amount of repeating table rows that can be created

Hi Hilary,

I was searching for information about the limit of repeating sessions and i found this forum, it looks you're an expert on the subject. What i need to know is the opposite of the above. Do you know the standard limit of rows for repeating sessions, i mean, if we don't impose a limit, does Infopath have "standard" limit of rows that can be inserted?

Thank you very much
