Once I figured out I could change the binding of the field everything worked out fine. The relation will always send the key value. You will need to either use a dropdown to display the name (selected from the key value) or can use an expression box to lookup the name using the key and your secondary data source and then display the text value.

Re: Problems with textbox data field

My DB currently has two tables, one containing project information and another one with team member names. I have a one to many relationship setup on a 'name' field in both tables. One team member to many projects.
In the form I setup a dropdown box to query/filter the project table by Team member name. To do this I have to setup a secondary data connection on the team member table in order for the names to populate the dropdown list.

In the data section of the form I'm using a repeating table that includes fields from the project table including name. When I test the form using the dropdown, the data returned from the query/filter returns the primary key value (1,2,3 etc) instead of the name of the team member. I can't figure out how to get the team member name instead of it's key value.

I did notice that access forced the number data type for the name field in my project table which must be why it returns the key value so it leads me to believe I need to change the tables/relationships in access to get this working. Just don't have enough experience to figure that out.

Thanks for the help.
Jim
Re: Problems with textbox data field

Hi Jim and welcome to the forums,

can you give in more detail?
are you querying the data from database based on the drop down value?
Not able to get what you mentioned in third paragraph?

Problems with textbox data field

I'm fairly new to Infopath so please bare with me. I'm testing some front end possibilities for an Access DB. Just working with two simple tables at the moment.

I'm setting up a dropdown box to query the 'name' field from my main table (The only way I can get this working is via a secondary data connection to the 'name' table.) So I get my list of names in the control and everything works fine when the query is run.

The problem I have is the results in the data section of the form (repeating table) return the primary key value (ie. 1,2,3 etc.) instead of the actual name. I've tried several different ways of setting up the relationship in the DB and tried to modify the control but I'm not having any luck.

Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
