For me at least, it was the result of a poor database design. I had it set up so that the parent table was an optional section, and at the same time, you did not need to enter information into the parent table to enter info into the child table. i created new relationships with the parent table of the parent table (grandparent table??? lol), and it works like a charm.

Re: "spontaneous" instantiation of a repeating table

If I recall the situation correctly, the correct structure was something like:

Main Repeating Section
-- Non-Repeating Section
---- Sub Repeating Section
-- Non-Repeating Section
---- Sub Repeating Section
-- Non-Repeating Section
---- Sub Repeating Section
-- Non-Repeating Section
---- Sub Repeating Section

I.e. each sub repeating section was contained inside a non-repeating section, all of which was in the main repeating section.

Re: "spontaneous" instantiation of a repeating table

a regular section should be inside the repeating section for each one of the child tables, correct?

Re: "spontaneous" instantiation of a repeating table

tried that, no change.

Re: "spontaneous" instantiation of a repeating table

I seem to recall running into this before, and that it was a "context" issue.

If I recall correctly, the solution was to put a containing section around each of the inner repeating sections.

"spontaneous" instantiation of a repeating table

I have a parent table, Medical_Exam, and probably 6 child tables, Knee_Exam, Elbow_Exam, etc. The Medical_Exam table has a one-to-many relationship with each on of the child tables. And the child tables are not related to eachother.

In Infopath, each child table is in a repeating section. By default, there is no entry for the child exams. However, if i were to then insert a new Elbow_Exam record, a Knee_Exam Hip_Exam etc section appears as well.

Any ideas on why this happens and how to get it to stop?

Thanks
