You can add two actions to the the button rules, one is to submit data to sharepoint and second action sends email.
Adding rules
1. Double click on button to open button properties dialog
2. Click on rules button in the button properties dialog.
3. Click on add button.
4. Click on add action button
5. Select "Submit using dataconnection"
6. Select sharepoint submit dataconnection.
7. Follow 5-6 steps and select "Email" dataconnection instead of Sharepoint connection.
8. Click ok to set the rules.

This should work for your first case.

sending via email and saving with one button?

My current set up allows for a user to press a button to save the form to a sharepoint library, it will then name the file based on 3 field using the concat function. the user who opens the file after it has been create is shown a different view which will allow the user to update the file via a submit button to the sharepoint library.

I have a receive data connection that pulls from a sharepoint contacts list, the receive data pulls the a name with a corresponding email address from the sharepoint list in a dropdown box.

I know sharepoint has user alerts, however i do not have a user alert that I find useful for my needs.

I have two questions.
1. is there a way to make one button to save a file to sharepoint, and also send an email to the person selected from the drop down box?
2. is there a code that you know of to add to sharepoint to make a new user alert that will send an email alert the creator or the modifier of the list item that there has been an update?

currently sharepoint only alerts all users of any update, creation, or deletion within the list.
