The best practice is to have your main data source be straight XML (not tied to a database or web service) and use secondary data sources that pull from your database or web service. When you set up your form like that, doing what you want is a "piece of cake". In fact, we do exactly what you describe for the majority of the forms we build for customers and use internally. Contact me via email if you'd like a quick demo.

Best of luck!

If I want to see an individuals personal information, vs. an individuals office information. Bot all the info is based on a single 'person' data record. I want to view an individuals personal information in ONE view, and then click a button to a different view based on a completely different data source, using the individuals ID as a key for the other data.

For example:

Person form contains Name, Social Security Number, address and date started assignment. Assignment contains building address, office info contact numbers and can be linked to all membwers of his team. Because he is on that team (along with others) it's normalized for this exercise.

I want a button on the person form that switches to the assignement view. I want a button on assignment view that switches to the person form. I have a few other forms that are related in this way, but this is a start.

ANy Ideas? can I use Views and change data sources 'on the fly' Or should I just plan on opening different forms for each data surce?
