Much of the standard functionality is very basic and only works for simple examples or has limitations as you create more advanced solutions.

If you would like to see some examples of advanced interaction between InfoPath and SQL databases send me an email.

Re: defaulted views

Clay,

I'm familiar with setting the "Default" view in the task
pane. This, however, doesn't seem to hold true when you create a form
from a database. It seems to "over ride" that. I have done tests on 4
different forms now, creating from scratch. It doesn't take the
"default" as that. The only way that I have been able to get it to
open with the view I want is by (as you mentioned) using the Open Rules
in the form options.

It also appears that if you use
the "new record" or "run query" buttons as provided, they automatically
go to the "default" view.

Is using code the only way to over ride this?

Re: defaulted views

In the views task pane you can set any view you want as default with the right click menu.

The form will always start with the default view. Unless in Open Rules (Form Options) you set a rule action to switch to a different view.

When you create a DB form it makes the initial view for you.

However the concept of InfoPath is that you can have multiple views or ways to represent the data but the same data throughout the form.

Your data can be viewed and manipulated in any view.

Add a new view, Drag the fields you want on to it. Create a button on your main view or open rules to switch to the new view and you can move from one view to the other. Or send certain users to a certain view or hide a certain section, whatever you need.

defaulted views

When connected to a database and running a query, is there a way to choose which "view" the query results goes to? It seems to always go to whatever is marked as the "default".

Also, when you open the form connected to a database, it seems to have designated one view as what it'll open to, no matter what is marked as the default. I looked in code and don't see anything.
