Alternatively you could create a separate list that has a 'log' item added to it whenever a change occurs to the form. This log item can be created from within Infopath (using web services - no code required just rules), alternatively you could create a SharePoint workflow that triggers an 'On Change' workflow (which can be somewhat easier to implement and you could also implement a reusable or site workflow - which can provide a standardised log mechanism for your lists/content types/the whole site).

Hope this helps.

We have a blog created by Jimmy which discusses programmatically adding rows to repeating sections, or you may try using qRules' Insert command for inserting rows. Hope this helps.

Insert Repeating section with a rule

I have a repeating section on a hidden view in my InfoPath Form. The section functions as a log of any changes made each time a form is submitted. Because the user doesn't see the form, I need a rule to be able to create a new repeating section each time the form is open for a running log. Any ideas how to do this without clicking on the insert section portion of the repeating section?
