All I did was change the later field value to "ID" and it magically worked. Let me know what your solution was.

Re: Cascading dropdowns - filtering works but selection does not

Hi Don.

Thanks for the reply. I found the fix just before your response and have been buried in this project ever since.

Seems like I filtered incorrectly and used RiskTypeSelection as the matching field (not distinct). When I filtered on RiskType it all worked out OK.... something to that effect. That was two weeks ago and a lot's happened in that time ("May I be excused, my brain is full"). Bottom line it was a user error (me!) and I had filtered on the wrong field.

Wanted to say "thanks" for the reply. This forum is a great resource.

Best to you sir.

Re: Cascading dropdowns - filtering works but selection does not

Hello nixter,

I'm not sure yet what's causing the problem. There might be some conditions that are oreventing your form from functioning properly, so here is a short video of a cascading drop-down approach we use. There are categories to choose from that filters out choices, which is practically similar to what you want to have on your form. Let us know if it works out well, if not kindly attach a sample of your form so that we could test it further.

Cascading dropdowns - filtering works but selection does not

I have two dropdowns - RiskTypeSelection and RiskType. There is a data connection to a SharePoint list where this data resides. Both dropdowns are pulled from this SP List.

RiskTypeSelection is the 'master' value and RiskType contains multiple risk types under each master value. When I pick "Operational" RiskType Selection, I should see only the "Operational" risk types, When I select "Security" I should only see Security risk types. This is very similar to a State/City selection setup... when selecting Oregon, I should only see Oregon cities.

That said, the filtering works great in the list. The RiskTypeSelection dropdown pulls distinct values of Security, Operational, Human Resources based on "Show only entries with unique display names". The problem is in the resultant RiskType values. No matter what selection I pick on the second dropdown, as soon as I click out the value reverts to the last available one in the filtered list.

Here is one example for "Security":

RiskTypeSelection

RiskType

Security

Network vulnerable

Security

Physical security to server room

Security

Incorrect badge

Security

Hard disk not secure

Now no matter what I pick, the value will always revert to the last sorted value - in this case, "Hard disk not secure". Even if I remove the filter to have RiskType show all risks no matter what value is in RiskTypeSelection, I still get the dropdown list reverting to the last value.

There are no rules tied to this field. Any hints on why this is happening?

Many thanks in advance
