This is a big one. I actually am in the process of creating the same type of workflow. I am working on a three stage approval process where the user filling the form out chooses the stage 1 approver from a person/group picker, the stage 2 approver is sent to our admin personnel group, and stage 3 is whatever department is selected on the form (I have 7 departments total, and also 7 SharePoint groups (one for each department)). In all I have a ton of approval workflows depending on who the user selects and what department is select. Here what I have learned, and I hop this helps so what:

ON THE FORM
-----------------
1) set up property promotions so the state selected (DE, PA, or VA) is selected will be a column in the forms library

SPD
--------
1) use SharePoint Designer
2) Create a reusable workflow, but list workflow may work best if its for that form only
3) edit the workflow

create a LOCAL VARIABLE to store the value that's in the forms library for the state select
create three "if " statements

*basically once the form is submitted, the state selected value, say VA, your workflow will look at that column grab the VA and use it as a local variable, now called State and choose the correct approval to do.
Now your workflow will do this:

so basically your flow looks like

if state = VA
start approval process process on current items with [these users]

InfoPath/SharePoint Approval Workflow

I created a form in InfoPath and then published it to
SharePoint. I am now attempting to create a workflow so that the form can get
approved once it is submitted. This is where I’m having problems…. I need to create
a workflow so that depending on what it says in the form, it will get submitted
to different people. So the form has a section to choose a state (DE, PA, or
VA). I want the form to be submitted to Person 1 if the filler chose DE, Person
2 if the filler chose PA, and Person 3 if the filler chose VA. From what I gather
I can’t do this in InfoPath or SharePoint but need to use SharePoint designer.
Is this right and how do I do it? Thanks!
