But one has to remember that a SharePoint form library stores XML files, just like a document library could store Word documents. If data needs to be modified in Word documents, one needs to open the Word document, perform the update and save. If one wants to update the XML file stored in a SharePoint form library, one opens the XML form, updates the content and then resubmits.

Re: Automatic change of AD details within old form xml

Thanks for the feedback.

I found it hard to believe people will be manual editing forms. I build a workflow to update the field values but still it is a manual process and one needs to search through heaps of forms to find the once that were assigned to the manager for approval. It is a real time waster especially when dealing with a few hundred staff members and multiple forms.

Re: Automatic change of AD details within old form xml

Typically one needs to open an xml form to have the data updated (via rules or via user input) then resubmit to overwrite the existing xml form.

A similar question was asked yesterday but I don't think that a solution has been found for that question either:

http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/25632.aspx

Automatic change of AD details within old form xml

In our organisation we made use of forms that need approval from mangers, the issue I have is that when a manger
moves between departments or leaves the company the forms allocated to him/her goes into limbo.

The manager’s details are populated into fields in the xml from LDAP and is used by rules, code or workflows for decision making and e-mail notifications.

Is there an automated process that can relink the old forms to the new manager?
In other words we will need to be able to search the xml files and change the tag data in multiple libraries.
We are running SharePoint 2007. Upgrade to SharePoint 2013 is planned.
