I will try the workflow option again I am sure I just missed how to make the workflow change a value in the other library.

Re: Buttons that change values in another form library

So - in your Inventory library - is the status field (the one you can set to Checked out or whatever) editable from SharePoint? When you publish a form and promote a property, you can also allow it to be edited from the library. For workflow or for CAML to change a value in the library, I think you'll need to make sure the promoted property is writable.

Re: Buttons that change values in another form library

I tried a little in the workflow and could find the option to set value if the checkout status states "checked out," but was unable to bring up the action to change the value in the other library. It is probably my inept abilities dealing with workflows though

Not real familiar with CAML, but yes they are both sharepoint libraries.

Thank you for the reply!

Re: Buttons that change values in another form library

Oh, this is an interesting one - and may not be easy. I think you may find SharePoint workflow to be your simplest solution - you could have a workflow on the library for your Request form and when it is submitted, go update the item in the Inventory library.

However, since you just want to update one item in the other library, you may be able to do this with CAML. Is the Inventory form submitting to a SharePoint Library? Or is it a List?

Here's a blog post that may get you started....

Buttons that change values in another form library

I have two forms one is an Inventory form where a device is entered in with serial number, etc. There is a dropdown field in this form called "status" with a few values: Checked Out, Available, Permanently Assigned, and Damaged.

The second form is a request form where fields such as who wants to check the device out is added. They can then select, using a secondary data connection, one of the available devices in a drop down. After which information is populated about the device.

What I want is to have two buttons one for checking out and one for checking in update the field in the "inventory library" with checked out. Later when the item arrives back the second button will change this field to available.

I have attached screen shots of both forms to clear up any confusion. I have been all over the internet looking for specific, preferably non-code options to no avail.

Thanks!!!
