I reworked the form so there is no longer a need to pass that information to the existing file. Thanks so much for all your help, I am really enjoying infopath and learning what I can do with it.

Re: Passing information from one form to another without clicking submit

You use qRules, right? I'm wondering if GetInputParameter may help here - you could include a link to the XML with the input parameter and value you wish to pass.

Passing information from one form to another without clicking submit

I have a request form with 4 views. The main view is what the employees see first when they go to the form. They can choose from New, Replacement or Update. If they choose 'New', it takes them through the process of completing the form to request a new badge. If they select Replacement or Upgrade it will take them through the same process if they don't already have a file in the library.

If the file exists in the library the 'next' button goes away and they are provided a link to the existing form to update their information and resubmit.

Currently as soon as they click either the replacement or update option buttons, if they have an existing file, the next button is hidden and a section appears with a link to the existing file.

I need to be able to have the value 'Update' from the update option button to pass to the existing form for some other logic I want to place in the form to work properly.

I am thinking that instead of having the 'Next' button hide when one of those options are selected and the hidden section open, that I would use the 'next' button to submit the update to the existing form and then open the section with the link.

My concern is that doing this would overwrite the form with a blank one. Is there anyway to do this and have it just update a column for that specific form and then when the employee opens the existing form, that column would be set to the 'update' value?
