What I have is one SharePoint list with two column. Column 1 is called Type of Hazard and the other is called Hazard. So in the cascade, when someone selects a type if hazard in the first drop down, the 2nd drop down displays all the hazards associated with that type of hazard. The hazards in drop down list 2 are show in text boxes. I added the check box column into the SharePoint list to give the user a way to select the desired hazard from drop down 2 but they're grayed out. I am able to change the text box in drop down 2 to a check box and when I preview the form those check boxes are functional but the names of the hazards don't appear when I switch the type of control. In many of the examples I see online the cascade is just a drop down on the left and a drop down on the right allowing the user to select only one item but my cascade allows the user to select 1 item in the drop down on the left (type of hazard) and I need for them to be able to select multimple items from the control on the right (hazard). The only way I know how to do this is to split my lists into two lists and use a repeating table with the two drop downs in it but is there a way to do this with the cascade?

Re: Selecting From Cascading Drop Downs

If you added the checkboxes to the secondary data source then I imagine that's why they're greyed out. I think they might be read only or locked controls.

I guess I don't understand the scenario. For cascading dropdowns, the user makes a selection in the first dropdown. This triggers a rule or a filter that then populates the second dropdown. The user then makes a selection in the second dropdown, and they're done. The dropdowns are bound to fields in the main data source (but they may be receiving data from a secondary data source, of course). I don't really understand how the checkboxes fit in to the cascading dropdown scenario. Can you explain? Feel free to add attachments (screenshots, forms) via the Options tab when replying.

Thanks!

Selecting From Cascading Drop Downs

Hi,

I'm using InfoPath 2007 and I have a cascading drop down menu I am using. The menus are functioning just as they should (i.e. selecting option 1 from the first list renders a set of choices that pertain only to option 1 and so on). But what I'm having trouble with is given the user the ability to select an item from the 2nd menu. I added a check box field into the SharePoint list that the cascading menus are pulling from and the check boxes do appear next to each item in the 2nd drop menu but I can't check them. It's like they're grayed out. Is there a way I can allow the users to select from the 2nd drop menu? Thanks.
