The users will be able to use this to switch views and print. Hopefully this is as agreeable to them else I'll be back to read the link you posted and explore the buttons option :)

The emailing of the form that I mentioned in my original post looks to be a non-starter as the email attachments are (infopath) XML files and the chances of the email receipients having infopath installed are remote at best!

Thanks again.

Re: Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

Hi,

I was suggesting placing buttons on the form (canvas) itself.

Here's a blog post that may help.

Good luck!

Re: Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

Nice thankyou, multiple buttons will do if that's what it takes.

When you say add buttons, do you mean placing buttons on the form itself or is there someway to customise the browser (IE) form web page that info services generates?

Just so I know which way to Google.

Thanks again

Re: Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

I see. Your scenario is complex because you want to print 2 views on one button click. Unfortunately, I'm thinking this would require code, and I'm not 100% clear on whether it would work in the browser.

The other option is that you add buttons to guide the users:

1. "Click here to display Print View 1."

2. Then the user prints that.

3. "Click there to display Print View 2."

4. Then the user prints that

5. "Click here to save/submit and close"

Maybe someone else will chime in with other info. Sorry I couldn't help further.

Re: Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

I think so but being fairly new to infopath I'm not sure where to start reading up on this. How do I tie a command/button to print a particular print view?

The flow would need to be - submit form. Then print customer copy then print supplier copy. Can this all be done via the submit button?

As a general question, the original spec for this job was that it all be do-able without the user needing to have infopath installed on their pc/thin client. The more I hear about this the more I'm wondering if that is possible... especially if we are now starting to talk about events.

Before I head down blind alleys, should I be returning and saying that this sort of functionality requires infopath filler and a browser enabled form just wont cut it?

We use SP 2010 Enterprise and therefore have infopath services but I am not sure what level of functionality this gives us with regard to form "smarts"
A chart showing the cans and cants when comparing infopath on the client and infopath services (browser form) would be handy

Re: Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

Hi,

I think the solution is as simple as creating separate views:

1. A view to fill out the form

2. A print view for the office

3. A print view for the customer.

You can customize each view as desired, showing only the data desired and in whatever way needs to be displayed. Of course, you can create more print views if more are needed.

Does this make sense?

Fill out one form and print 2 slightly different versions

Having created a nice new infopath (2010) form and published it to our sharepoint (library) I'm now given some requirements that would have been nice on day 1 :)

ok think of this as a booking system.
The client and supplier details are entered into the form and relative money values such as money taken by this office, money to be collected by supplier, commission %.

The form is then submitted and this is added to the form library. This version is the "office" copy.
The form remains open so that it can be printed. My understanding was that the printed copy goes to the customer "as is" but it seems (now!) that this is not the case.

This copy now needs to be printed but minus a couple of the money fields. This is the "customer" copy
Another copy then needs to be printed (or emailed but that is a whole different problem/thread) with different fields showing/hidden. This is the "suppliers" copy.

Should be noted that all info is typed onto the onscreen form and this is the master ("office") copy.
The customer and supplier copies will contain the bulk of the info with a few minor field deductions and these will be printed and not saved to the form library.

Hope some of that makes sense!
