Send email to CourseManager (at) Qdabra (dot) com for a syllabus. Lots of great content. I just gave the class last week.

Getting training for Infopath

Hi - this is a little complicated so let me set out my situation.

Earlier in the year I got a new job in a systems role. One of the tasks they wanted me to undertake was introduce some form of electronic approval form process throughout the department to replace the Word/Email ones. So naturally I looked at Infopath as a way of achiving this. Although IT literate, I had no previous experience with either Infopath, XML or Sharepoint so for the last 6 months I have been teaching myself, with assistance from books and forums.

Now I have got to the stage where I can impliment most of the basic and intermediate form design (controls, validation, comboboxes with look up and automatic filtering, optional sections, people pickers, buttons etc). I have also been able to publish a form and have it used by individuals throughout the department. However I still feel that I don't understand 90% of what Infopath does. I continue to encounter 'bugs' in my form which perplex me; I am finding even basic formatting of forms (getting font colours and table sizes right) a nightmare and, most importantly, I have no real idea how to create the type of workflow and integrated export and importing of data that infopath is designed to do. This is combined with numerous issues I am having with regards to access rights and performance (my form can take over a minute to open on some systems).

So basically I need further training. I'm now looking at external courses however they all seem to either deal with basic form design (of which 90% would be a waste of time for me) or sharepoint integration. I am interested in undertaking Sharepoint training but not until I have a full understanding of how Infopath forms work.

Does anyone have any suggestions on courses or futher materials I could use to get up to speed?

Thank you
