This will allow you to handle a user who is both an originator and an approver and make your submission process a little stronger. It sounds like you have the manager "hard-coded" in as an automatic approver which should probably not be the case and have the manager select approve or something instead. You could create a seperate copy of the form for the manager specifically but I think there is a better way.

Usually what I do is track the form state and the original creator. This way if your manager creates a brand new form it treats him as a submitter and the originator of the form. Then you can use rules that say originators cannot approve their own forms. If he opens someone else's form however he can approve it and the status will change. I usually keep a table of appover relationships to ease administration and handling multiple approvers and levels.

Hopefully this is what you need.

Re: setting defaul approval status to pending

Hi Clay

thanks for the reply!

you basically have it in one,

my boss = list manager, therefore can approve all the forms, but the problem is when they submit thier requests they are approved automatically becuase there a list manager :(

all i nee to do is somehow add some code that changes the forms stat from approved, to pending as its submited

Re: setting defaul approval status to pending

Hey Grant, Welcome.

Can you explain the exact problem a little better. It sounds like the form and the process are working for you and your manager. He is able to approve them? But the problem is when another group and manager use the form?

We will probably need a more detailed explanation. To do this same process, and take it to the next level, by adding more security and control you might want to check out our DBXL application which allows you to submit, save, and view forms via a SQL database. It also has email workflow included. <br /http://www.qdabra.com/categories.asp
setting defaul approval status to pending

Hello!

my first post!

anyhow, down to business, so i shall set the scene

I have a great vacation tracker that is working fine, submitting the forms to the sharepoint lists etc, working out the correct dates left from all thier forms etc etc

my mananger approves the forms for my group (a list manager), BUT the problem is when they submit there forms, to there manager sharepoint automatically submits them as approved!!!

now i have bene looking for ages to try and find a solution for this, my submit is done via the infopath rules and the dataconnection

any ideas anyone?

thanks

Grant
