Your 2nd URL has the XSN location as FormServerTemplates/TEMPLATENAME.xsn. Your sample link above in your anchor tags has a URL as if the form was published to a library -- but with the template name instead of the correct "template.xsn".

If published to library, go to the advanced settings for your library and you'll see the path to the template -- it is //Forms/template.xsn">http://<server>/<library>/Forms/template.xsn

If admin approved (and I think also if a content type -- not sure) it is /FormServerTemplates/TEMPLATENAME.xsn">http://<server>/FormServerTemplates/TEMPLATENAME.xsn If you go to the Form Templates library on your site and right click your form, you can use IE's copy shortcut to get the URL.

This is from SharePoint 2007 -- these things may be different in 2010, or in individual installations -- not sure how much of this can be customized.

Re: A normal link in Sharepoint to open a browser form

Sorry to call on this once again.

I have the following as my link, based on the article you gave me Hilary.

<div>
      <a href="http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/_layouts/FormServer.aspx
      ?XsnLocation=http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/NBS%20Forms%20Library/Forms/
      NBSFormsSharepoint.xsn&SaveLocation=http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/NBS%20
      Forms%20Library&Source=http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/NBS%20Forms%20Library">
      Create a New NBS Form</a></div>

When I click on this I'm getting an error

The following file is not a valid InfoPath form template: http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/NBS Forms Library/Forms/NBSFormsSharepoint.xsn

It seems fairly obvious what the problem is, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to find my correct URL. The URL used is based on the structure in the article with the actual locations taken from the URL I see when I open a form

http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://lhgmoss-perim:2750/FormServerTemplates/NBSFormsSharepoint.xsn&SaveLocation=http%3A%2F%2Flhgmoss-perim:2750%2FNBS%20Forms%20Library&Source=http%3A%2F%2Flhgmoss-perim:2750%2FNBS%2520Forms%2520Library%2FForms%2Fmyfiles.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1

I am accessing the page from an external URL, one of our test URL's, but I didn't think this would make any difference would it?

Thanks in advance

Re: A normal link in Sharepoint to open a browser form

Hi -- I didn't see the OpenIn parameter in your URL? As I said, it's attempting to open the form in the Infopath client, which based on this blog, and the responses below, it shouldn't be. It's also producing an error in the client which the form doesn't usually produce.

I'm using Rob Haller's guide for placing a link in a web page that links to a browser based form without the user having to use the ribbon.

http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/rob/archive/2008/09/22/creating-a-web-link-for-sharepoint-new-on-infopath-forms-library.aspx

I'm struggling a little with this. I have the below code entered in my webpage and when the link is clicked, the screen flicks to the Infopath client and comes up with an error it doesn't normally come up with when opened. I'm looking to get the form opening up in a browser, not the client. Could someone help me with this please?

Thanks

<a href="BLOCKED SCRIPTcreateNewDocumentWithProgID(escapeProperlyCore('http://<server>/Extranet/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://<server>/FormServerTemplates/NBSFormssharepoint.xsn&SaveLocation=http://<server>/Extranet/NBS%20Forms&Source=http://<server>/Extranet/NBS%20Forms/Forms/AllItems.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1',true),
       'http://<server>/Extranet/NBS%20Forms/', 'SharePoint.OpenXMLDocuments',true)">
       Create a New Document</a>

(obviously where it says BLOCKEDSCRIPT, it actually says javascript)
