I managed to install Infopath 2010 on top of my 2007 installation and I am now able to edit 2007 forms with embedded Jscript code from the old version. Although IP 2010 has some nice new features (such as filtering in web enabled forms and the "copy rules" feature) I am quite disapointed with Microsoft removing basic features. Such as being able to double click a control, in order to display its properties, and the missing Jscript programming of course.

I also miss the feature of being able to move data sources by drag and drop in the Data Sources panel (which is not possible in the old version either).

So far, I have found myself switching back and fourth between the two versions, which I would not expect should be necessary in first place - ideally I should only need one version of Infopath in order to edit any form: the newest! There is a small place for improvement Microsoft.

Re: InfoPath 2010 VSTA won't install

I had the same issue - Hilary's recommendation worked for me.

crim1:

I have the same problem as you describe. But before uninstalling my IP 2007 on my PC I just want to be sure about one thing:

Do you know if IP 2010 supports Jscript programming on 2003-2007 compatible forms?

I remember reading that Jscript is not supported in IP 2010 (which is quite annoying), but I have a few forms already that has custom Jscript code involved, and I need to make sure I can edit those after installing the VSTA for 2010. Otherwise I need to follow your example by installing two seperate IP versions on two seperate environments.

Thanks in advance.

I looked at one of my JScript-coded forms in IP2010. In the Programming tab, I see a message that states: JScript cannot be edited in InfoPath. So I guess it indeed isn't supported.

Re: InfoPath 2010 VSTA won't install

I have the same problem as you describe.
My IT Department , just installed Infopath on another machine where Infopath 2007 was not installed. The VSTA portion installed fine. On my own machine, will uninstall Infopath 2007 (as you suggested) and then try installing the VSTA again.

I also found (after a bit of rather painful research) that it is generally simpler to just use one version of Office per machine. I set up a VM with Office 2007, including IP, and then migrated my regular machine to Office 2010.

Re: InfoPath 2010 VSTA won't install

Hi Hilary,

Yes I do. Does Infopath 2007 have to be uninstalled, or some component of it ?
