InfoPath can call the web service.

Re: Email - Outlook independent

Hi Patrick and thanks for your response. Outlook is the default in the organization, however some clients will have this disabled or running from machines where it has not been configured for their profile. Looks like the server based solution. I hadn't considered a HTTP post. Do you have any details on how to do this?
Thanks.

Re: Email - Outlook independent

Hi Craig and welcome to our forum,
What kind of e-mail client do they have? In general, you are right. InfoPath needs Outlook on the client to send e-mail. However, you may be able to write some code in the form template to do an HTTP post or something. Another option would be a SharePoint event handler.

Patrick Halstead [InfoPath MVP]
InfoPathDev

Email - Outlook independent

Hello,
I've designed my form and intergrated it into a SharePoint Library, so far so good. I've included a rule to send via email as part of my submit button. When I demonstrated this today, the client machine did not have Outlook installed and the form failed (because I didn't have an exception to handle this). But the customer now wants to have the form email without the need for Outlook client. I'm thinking this will most likely involve a server based solution, lots of coding. Is there a workaround (simple) for including the email function within the forms without the need for Outlook client?
Thanks.
