When I do Build | Publish, I get a 4th option, which is to create an installable template. However, you can still publish to a network location, and then design the resulting XSN and publish again from InfoPath 2007 itself as an installable template. When asked about the code, just choose ignore.

Re: No "Publish as an installable form template" option

Hi GMLear,

I've asked Greg to respond since I am not doing much development these days. I know MS changed things a bit in 2007. You should search for "regform.exe" which worked for IP2003 forms. For 2007, they changed MSI creation to be via Visual Studio and it was a bear to get working but I believe there was a solution. Anyway, you can make your form URN based and send it around as a restricted solution but then it can't publish to a SharePoint site. A restricted XSN does not need to be "installed". Just send them an XSN link in e-mail. Mel's blog shows how to create a URN based solution.

For a domain trust or full-trust installable MSI, please wait for more word from Greg.

Thanks!

Re: No "Publish as an installable form template" option

Thanks, Patrick. What InfoPath plugin for VS are you referring to? I apologize for my ignorance on the subject.

Re: No "Publish as an installable form template" option

The InfoPath SDK for 2003 (check out InfoPath Resources link in the upper right corner of InfoPathDev home page), has a snippet of code that registers the XSN in the registry. That's what you need to do. There's also an exe tool that creates and MSI but I believe that was deprecated in VS 2007. VS should allow you to build an installable MSI. Maybe you are missing the InfoPath plugin for VS.

No "Publish as an installable form template" option

I need to publish a fully trusted InfoPath 2007 form that I've developed in VS2008 (with VS2008 SP1 installed) and want to do it by creating an installable form. My problem is that I cannot find an option anywhere within VS2008 that would create an installable form. If I select Build> Publish the resulting Publishing Wizard has only three destination options: to a SharePoint server; to a list of e-mail recipiant; and to a network location.

Is there something else I need to install? I'm stumped. Every forum and how-to on the subject of installable forms and VS2008 that I can find assumes the option is there.
