well you can use the relink option provided in sharepoint to link the forms. basically you will have to publish the template to some doc library in sharepoint 2007, then transfer the forms onto this library (you can use actions -> open in explorer and paste the forms there). then go to settings -> form libraray settings -> relink documents to this libary and then select the forms to relink.

Can a form still be opened if the form template is moved?

Hi there,
Apologies in advance if this topic has already been covered, I did some searches but couldn’t find anything….I have previously designed some Infopath form templates (.xsn's, in Infopath 2003) for my company which were published on our old Intranet (Sharepoint 2003). The forms, once completed by the staff and HR department (.xml's), were then stored electronically by HR in the employee's staff record.

Now we have migrated to a new Intranet (using Sharepoint 2007) and a new server for all the files (including the Infopath forms). However, I have found that when I removed a form template from the OLD server, the completed form (.xml) held in the employee record (based on that template) will no longer open correctly. I get the an error saying it cannot be opened as it couldn’t find the form template (with the old file path).

So does this mean that we need to keep our old Sharepoint server running for years just to preserve the ability to open the forms in the employee records? Or is there a way to open completed forms without the original template it was based on being in the exact same location?

Any help would be VERY gratefully received by the whole IT Department, who want to dismantle the old Intranet server!

Thanks in advance,

Jo
