The managers e-mail is stored in Active Directory under the User Object of the Manager. You can also use the displayName attribute + "@"domain.name to get the managers email unless of course it different.

Write a method using the DirectorySearcher Class. You will do two ldap queries 1 on the direct report, and then query the manager for their email.

Good example

The web service also provides several other useful features and I recommend checking it out if you do a lot of work involving active directory.

Re: Active directory attributes for Manager

Hey Gary.

The issue is that manager email is not stored in Active Directory.

You could add it as a custom field.

Or you would need to be able to get the manager's username in AD and then requery for their user data secondarily.

Have you looked at Qdabra's AD Web Service?

Active directory attributes for Manager

I am looking for a step by step guide to insert manager's email address from Active Directory.
