However, since the end result is a Word document, it will have all the printing features offered by that application. I would hold this, however, as an ace up my sleeve if negotiations with the customer for changes to the requirement breakdown.

Re: header footer problems

Hi Greg,

I already tried that one last week but it is not what I need :( That example is probably the only one that can be printed using code behind without any other issues. If I may say so the author choose a convenient example but the article is very good nevertheless. In that page the author has only the repeating table, with equal rows height and with a data source predefined which he is looping to recreate the table itself. I have to take my data exactly from the form and another reason it's not working is because I don't have a repeating table, I have just a bunch of nodes (values column) and plain text (the first 2 columns) and the rows have different height :)

Greg thanks for your time, it really seems that no printing solution can be done with InfoPath to suite the needs of the ones that requested this solution. I will have to talk to them to find alternatives to our problem.

Have a nice day,

bogdan

Re: header footer problems

Sadly, as stated before, InfoPath is very weak in the printing realm. However, take a look at this Blog article and see if it helps. If not, you might have the (potentially) unpleasant experience of going back to the customer and explaining the limitations and working out an acceptable alternative:

My problem is that 2nd table might be a repeating table or might be just a plain table. After several talks with users it seems that a plain table is more likely to be used. First table will appear only on first page. For the rest of the pages at the begining I must have the Company Logo, Quality Control Department, Main Facility together with the 2nd table header (Attributes, Characteristics, Values).

I just cant figure it out how to print this like it is requested.

Re: header footer problems

A template part adds nodes to your schema... So if you just populate the value of the correct node, it will display in the view.

However, if you dropped the same template part into multiple views, I haven't tried this recently but seem to recall that what you will end up with is new schema for each instance of the template part you dropped into a view.... that makes things awfully messy and you will need to popualte the node in each of the schema sections for each template part.

(Sorry if I still don't understand what you are doing).

Re: header footer problems

What I am trying to do is a reporting system for product testing. In the header I must have company logo and in the footer I must have the names of the persons who take part at testing process.

1 : Unfortunately in the middle of the page I have a repeating table which might spread on multiple pages. I would like to break it up manually but I cant in this situation.

2 & 3 : I thought of including a table at the end of the form and even if it will not look like a footer. In this table I want to include names of persons responsible for the testing. The thing is that they will not be the same each time because the employees of our company work in shifts. So I created a list and I made a template part with a text box in it and with that list as a data source. Now all I want to figure it out is how can I pass IDs of the persons to the template part like parameters. If I will have 10 views with a person that needs to be changed I don't want to modify them all and instead I want to modify the name only in the list. Hope that was a little bit more clear.

Re: header footer problems

1. Not really. Maybe, if you knew exactly what your data was going to be and you broke it up manually you could do this.

2. I don't understand what you are trying to do.

3. Can't do this. You could try adding something at the end of your view, but no guarantee it will show up in the location of a footer.

Sorry, InfoPath is not that advanced yet. You could try generating WordXML to accomplish this, but that's not a simple task either--though it's more possible than your current scenario.

header footer problems

hi all,

i need to make some templates compatible with 2003 and i am encountering several problems like:

1. i need to have a picture and a field in the header section but it seems that this is not compatible with 2003. is there anyway to make a section repeating at the beginning of each page?

2. in the footer i need to introduce some template parts. is there a way to pass parameters to the template parts in order to sort the data from the template parts?

3. i need the footer to be shown only on the last page. is there a check box or something for this option?

regards,

bogdantc
