You can do this easily, however not with the standard database data connection. As you have seen it does not allow for dynmic queries.

Web Services are the best practice as they give the most flexibility. There are ways to paste a query together in code but this can be tough to manage or not as efficient.

Do you have access to a web server / sql server that you could install some web services? Then you could query and table you wanted to.

query database using dropdown selection

I'm quite new with Infopath.

Is it possible to query a Database using a value selected in a DropDownList ?

I have a first dropdown list that are filled with ProjectName list

I want to fill a second dropdown (Task List) list according to the ProjectName selection.

The problem is that ProjectName and Task List are not on the same server.

I have a store procedure that take the ProjectName en entry and return the TaskList coresponding to it on the right server.

I need either to connect to this store procedure or something like that

Regards
