Thanks for the reply and the suggestions. After much testing I found that one of the views was causing the slow opening of the form. I deleted the view and then re-built it and now the form opens much quicker.

I am working toward setting up the form as you have outlined in your response with a backend database but that will probably not happen for another 6 months or so.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

What are your results with a very simple test form? One or two views.

I would look at ways to consolidate your views such as using conditional formating to just hide certain sections on similar views.

I am guessing your schema is also fairly complex.

From an architecture standpoint, to move this to a better performing design, typically I would do this:

Use a backend database with web services to house your source data and collect the user's input.

Identify each user as they open the form, this can be done with an Active Directory web service.

With these two steps you can then allow the user to use multiple, smaller forms and the data is shared between them since we know who's info it is.

With this, you end up with a more typical client server application which can perform well while manipulating and collecting your information.

For most functionality you should not need any code or anything elaborate other than this design change.

You can also attach a zip of your form and XML files in a zip and then I could try it out and see how it performs for me.

Very slow form load

Hi

I have an Infopath form (IP2003 SP1) that is 512kb in size with 25 views and 3 data connections (xml files 16, 26 and 188kb). There are four buttons with vbscript behind to send emails, some conditional formatting and no validation/on load/on change events etc or managed code.

The form is stored on a shared network drive and takes 10 minutes to load (new form or in design mode).

I have read this article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb608319(office.11).aspx and have tried removing the data connections (no effect), taking it off the network (no effect) and starting with a blank default view (no effect).

Has anyone any further suggestions?

Thanks

Gary
