Yeah, I realize that, and I should have specified that I did not want to involve coding (edit: additional rules and obscure workarounds). I am trying to make this as simple as possible for users to intereact with the data, and it seems that the more simplified I make it, the more "gotchas" I run into.

So, one of the other optioins I have played with, is having the web service format the numbers properly before it gets to InfoPath, but the problem with this is that InfoPath does not recognize 3,452.13 as a valid number because of the commas. Now, I can see the numbers properly, I just can sum them up in other expression boxes! Sheesh!!!

Any suggestions?

I think all you would need to do is create a field in your form. Populate it from your webservice and transform the data how you want. The user can then update the data and have a rule that puts it back into your webservice. So you can just have a front end field that presents the data to your user and moves the data to and from the backend field and can give you greater flexibility.

Formatting numeric fields from web service

I am writing a web service that will supply data to and from an infopath form via a secondary data source, the problem that I am running into is that InfoPath treats all fields from the web service as simpleContent, and you do not get any options to format the data (i.e. currency) for the return information.

I know I can create an expression box to do this, but the problem is that I need the user to be able to update the data in the returned table.

Any thoughts? Or is this too simple that I am missing the boat?
