Unfortunately, this is a usergroup that has been completing the same tasks with a Word Doc, a set of Macros and saving to a LAN folder structure for years - they want to replicate this with the new functionality. Sounds like I need to put my thinking cap on and find a way to get them to stop the 'lemmings off a cliff' attitude! Thanks again!

Re: Using Infopath to create a folder and save a form to Sharepoint upon Submit

For this there is no InfoPath or SharePoint functionality. You would need to have a service program running all the time which detected the new file, parsed the name and created the folders, and then copy or move the file and rename it. There is shareware software that will do this.

What I have found though is that once you get a significant number of forms that this method can be cumbersome to navigate folder structures. I am not sure if this is driven from a need to archive, track usage, or organize forms but I have found using a data base is much more secure, controlled, and organized and you can create analysis reports. You may want to check out the Database Accelerator Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.0 - Developer which I believe it is a must for any enterprise-class InfoPath solution.

Re: Using Infopath to create a folder and save a form to Sharepoint upon Submit

Thanks for responding Clay, we are looking to have a new folder created per completed form..

User completes Form1 with Customer ID and Customer Name being required, and used for file saving. Upon Submit, we would like a new folder created and carry over the CustomerID & now() for the folder name with the form saved in it, where the name would be CustomerID, Customer Name & now(). I've got the form saving down, it's the folder creation that I'm stumped on.

I would be one happy little girl if you could tell me how to accomplish this! :)

Thanks!

Re: Using Infopath to create a folder and save a form to Sharepoint upon Submit

Do you want a folder per completed form or just a second place to keep a copy. The latter is just a matter of creating a second submit and using rules to have it submit both at the same time. I have also used software to monitor one folder and automatically move or copy files to another, this would work to create seperate subfolders.

Using Infopath to create a folder and save a form to Sharepoint upon Submit

Hello! I'm a relatively new Infopath user with enough techinical
background to be very scary.

We are using Infopath & Sharepoint 2003, and trying to tie the two
together. I have created a specific form, published it to our
Sharepoint site and created an file name creation upon submitting the
form - that is working perfectly.

My business partners would like to have the form create a folder in
the Sharepoint site upon submit and save the form in it at the same
time, both carrying the auto-created file name. Then they can other
documentation manually to the file folder to accompany the form
created.

Is this possible? I'm not a developer by all means, but if you point
me in the right direction I can figure it out.

Thanks in advance!
~gg
