Right click the link in the header of this reply, and save the file locally. Right click the saved file, and select design. The validation rule is on field2. :)

A sample form would be great if you can. This all seems very straightforward but I am still not able to make it happen for some reason.

Add a rule to the field the dropdown is bound to. Set the rule condition to the field being equal to "Other" (if that is the display & the value). Then have the rule action set the value for the field bound to the text box. The validation rule on the text box would have the condition that the text box field is blank and the drop down field is equal to other. Let me know if you need a sample form. :)

Hi,

I have a drop down list in InfoPath and one of the options is "Other." If Other is selected, I am wondering if that can populate a free form text box underneath, that is also mandatory.
