Fields are bound to controls. Some controls are drop downs. Yes, you can hide something based on the value of a field that is bound to a drop down. However, as I have been trying to say throughout this exchange - in order for your formatting to work, you need to know what the possible values of the field are.

So, if the values in the field bound to the drop down are 1, 2, 3, etc. but the display is "not started", "in progress", "complete" you need to set the conditional formatting to (for example) hide the button unless the field value is 3.

One way to find out the value of a field is to just put the field on the form - as a text field, or as a calculated value - so you can see the actual value when you change the selection in the drop down (for example).

Re: hidden button

Hilary On the second button for Subject area expert this is a drop down. Can the button be hidden based on what is in a drop down?

Re: hidden button

Thanks so much! Don't laugh I was in the wrong view :)

Re: hidden button

The must be more going on as I removed the hidden rule and they still are not showing up.

Re: hidden button

Okay so what you are saying is the value of the Current Approver has to also be AccountID?

Re: hidden button

This is a perfectly normal way to do this. You just have to know the value of CurrentApprover and whether it will match the AccountID for the supervisor. I asked about that, but don't think you've replied? Have you verified the values should be the same? Put both fields on the form and check.

Re: hidden button

Is there a better way to do this? Am I making it more conmplicated than I need to ?

Re: hidden button

tried that. When I go in to Approve as the supervisor the button is still hidden

Re: hidden button

Do you suppose it is because Supervisor is a people picker? Change the data source task pane to the advanced view so you can actually see the fields instead of the control types. What are values you might find in CurrentApprover? Is it the user's account ID? If so, something like this should work.

Re: hidden button

I tried to add a rule to set a fields value

CurrentApprover value is Supervisor but that did not work

Re: hidden button

To what value?
