To prevent the control from showing at all, you can create a section control that's bound to the same field as the new control, and then place the control and any label text it has inside the section.

Thanks very much for the reply. I did try this originally and the form filled out prior does update in that the new field is there although it is not active. That said, it may be because I am testing too loosely. I will try this again after I modify the form template naming convention. I just noticed that my version is actually not updating.

You can add the field to the form, and then just make sure that existing forms don't upgrade, by modifying the Form options.

Scenario: I create a simple InfoPath form with 2 text boxes. I publish the browser enabled form to a SharePoint library. 12 people fill this form in over a period of time (one year let's say).

Next year, I have a new field that needs to be filled out for legal purposes or something. Now, this field may not appear on the form artifact filled out last year. It must only show the two fields and not the new one. Any new form filled out should have this field and it will be required.

Question: Is this doable without creating a new form library?
