I'm assuming it is not the default. The problem is disccused in MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316431/

"Internet Explorer is unable to open Office documents from an SSL Web site"

The fix was to uncheck the IE option...( on the Advanced tab).... "Do not save encrypted data to disk". Once I did that it all worked.

Yeah...kudos to me... lol

Cannot view attachement file using IE

I've created an InfoPath form with a file attachment control. It all works fine and happy on my development machine. Meaning…after the form has been deployed to the document library, I can upload or "attach" files to the form ( on SharePoint Portal 2007) and view the files after the form has been saved.

When I implemented the form to our production Portal (SP 2007) , the attachments do get uploaded. However, when using Internet Explorer with the form displayed in the web browser, and then double clicking on the "attached file", somewhere, something goes completely stupid and I get the following error message

Internet Explorer cannot download .

Internet Explorer was unable to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found.

The peculiar thing to me, why is it stating "Internet site". This is a local intranet site. Be that as it may, bottom line is the user cannot retrieve the dang file once it’s been attached and uploaded to the form on the portal.

Using Firefox web browser… all is fine, it all works.

Text files ( xx.txt ) are able to be viewed. Meaning the contents of the text file gets displayed in the browser. It doesn’t bring up Notepad or anything. Bottom line, text files seem to work.

PDF files, same thing as Word .doc files. Doesn't work, same error message.

I know the doc lib where the forms reside (or on the portal for that matter) understands what to do with .doc or .docx files. Meaning, the file association is correct. I know this because I’ve uploaded a Word doc to the same doc library where the InfoPath forms reside, double clicked on Word doc, and MS Word is launched and the file is displayed.
So it seems like IE is the culprit. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
