I actually found a way yesterday that is exactly what i wanted. Here is what i did....

Created a list box

Data sourced the external list library where the info was kept

In the List Box Entries under "Entries" i link the root folder that held the info (my case AllResources)

In the "Value" section i link the column the held the email addresses (Corporate Email)

In the "Display Name" I linked the column the held the resources names (Full Name)

I created a text box and in its properties i set the "default value" to equal the value of the list box

So now the list displays the names but the value of the list box "behind the seens" is the value of the email address. Worked out perfect!

Re: InfoPath Form searching SharePoint list

I believe you can. From what it sounds like, your form has a drop down box, which when value X in said drop down box is selected, you want a text box in the form to populate with a corresponding email address based on the selection of value X in drop down menu.

If this is what you are trying to accomplish, this is rather simple to do, I did this some time back so it's a bit hazy but bascially you will need to do this through sharepoint designer. Create a workflow that poplutates textbox1 from the sharepoint list in question, based on the value of dropdownbox1.

It is largely just a conditional operator

(

If the value of field1 on form1 is X

Then the value of field2 on form1 populates with Y data from sharepointlist1

)

Does that make sense to you?

Re: InfoPath Form searching SharePoint list

check attachment

InfoPath Form searching SharePoint list

Hello,

I have been reading about doing a cascading drop box based off of a SharePoint list but found out that for web enabled forms this will not work. So i have a form that has a drop down that is populated by a SharePoint list for resources on my project. The list has 2 columns, resource, and email address. So when a user picks a resource from the drop down box i need a text box to populate with the resources email address. Does anyone know how to make this happen with out cascading drop down boxes? Can a text box search a SharePoint list from a value in a drop down box and return the corresponding email address? Thanks in advance for any help.
