You will need to query the database to display "available for credit" as soon as they enter it. You can provide search using substring or dropdowns that form a taxonomy which browse the items. You will need to set up a data connection to query the database either directly or using a Web service. Note that you will need to add a refresh button or some kind of search button that actually runs the query since items may change on the server in the span of time that the user is filling out the form.

You shouldn't have to enter code for this. You can pass field parameters to a query adapter that displays the items for credit or not. Depending on query return value you can set up conditional formatting to show that Product A from Vendor C is not eligible for credit.

Qdabra Consulting can help you with your project if you need assistance.

Looking for options

I have an infopath form hosted on sharepoint which is browser enabled. The purpose of this form is to send items back to a central location for credit. Certain items from certain companies are not eligible for credit. I want to have a way of notifying the user when something that they entered is not available for credit as soon as they enter it. I have considered data validation but what if the user misspells the product or enters it by another name? I thought of having autocomplete or something so that if the user begins typing and it matches one of the specified entries after so many letters, it will auto fill the box...doesnt appear to be possible. If it is, that would be the best option.

I tried using an optional section that contains text specifying which items are not available for credit when the user chooses that vendor and conditional formatting so that it is hidden until that vendor is chosen, but how do I make it go away again when the user inserts a new row so that when the next vendor is chosen, that vendors info is shown?

Essentially my repeating table looks like this

Row Qty Vendor Product

Row is autoincrementing

Qty is a text box

Vendor is a drop down list box

Product is the one I would love to have autofill after so many letters but is currently a text box.

Is there any way to make it clear when someone enters Product A (which may be misspelled or entered by another name) from Vendor C that it is not eligible for credit and to remove it from the list and enter it in not for credit?

I should also mention that I do not seem to have any way to enter code on the form and am only the site administrator of a sub site in sharepoint so the solution has to be enterable in infopath itself using the features readily available. Sorry, I am a bit of a newbie here.

Thanks in advance.

Nicolela
