1) Leverage the UserGroup web service to do conditional formatting on your sections based on SharePoint groups. This is EXACTLY what you would want, but it requires some advanced techniques and some code. I do not use it because of this, but it is a great solution:

http://blog.ianchivers.com/wordpress/?p=37

2) The way I do this without code involves several moving pieces, but they are all OOTB functions of SharePoint and Office, including InfoPath:

Create a contact list on your site for managers. Click Actions > Connect to Outlook so that this contact list gets synchronized with your Outlook 2007 client. Add managers to this contact list by looking them up in the Global Address Book, right-click on each name, and select "Copy to Contacts." This will default to your personal contacts, but then you want to drag and drop all the managers from your contacts to the new Managers contact list that is synchronized in your Outlook "other contacts."

This will populate the SharePoint contacts list with the EXACT Active Directory info for each manager. I prefer this method over hand-jamming each person, because even the slightest typo can cause issues

In the form, create a data connection for this contact list

In the form, create a new field called "CurrentUserEmail" or whatever you prefer

Use the UserProfileService and set the default value of CurrentUserEmail to the WorkEmail attribute of the GetProfileByName method's data set returned automatically when a user opens the form

In your Manager section, add conditional formatting that says "Any Occurrence of Email_Address (from Contacts secondary data source" is not equal to CurrentUserEmail, then hide

This will check each user's email address and compare it with your Managers list. If the current user isn't one of the Managers in the list, then the section will be hidden.

Web based forms - displaying sections based on user/group

I'm having issues wrapping my head around conditional formatting and user roles in a web based form (InfoPath 2007).

For example, say I have a web based form for cost approval. This web based form has 2 sections. The 2 sections include an employee section and manager section. When an employee loads the form I only want them to see the employee section but I want managers to see both sections. I know how to do this using conditional formatting and user roles in a non web based form but I have no clue how to do this with a web based form.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
