I think you would want just one form but with two views within it. One for the search and one for the lookup detail result.

I would suggest you look at using web services to interact with your SQL data, if this will be an enterprise solution.

If you want to send me an email I can show you a couple examples of similar forms.

InfoPath and SQL Database (beginner)

Hello
I’am from Germany, so pelease excuse my english. I stand on the beginging of my InfoPath study. The job I have is to build a database for our books. So everybody can inform where some book is right now. So I created a database on sql Server with a table for the books. Now I have to make 2 InfoPath forms, one is to fill the database and one is to inform (search for a book). In the first form can the user put in the information about the book (author, title,… ) and the form send the information to store it on the database. The second form is to get the information about the book. The user gives the title in the form and the form gets the specific information of the book from the database and fills it automatically. The form run on a SharePoint Server 2007. Can you help me to make the connection from an InfoPath form to the database? Maybe someone of you have a small How-to. Thanks for your help. Greetings
