An additional update.

After trying a second hyperlink contained on my form using the url format listed previously and finding the second link opened in the browser, I reworked the url to work on hyperlinks in and outside of the form to open in the filler without the open/save prompt. I found the &SaveLocation parameter is not required and using the parameter &OpenIn=Client does what I need it to do.

Thanks Hilary for that additional nudge. Adding the source seemed to do the trick. I was able to open the form outside of a browser and without being prompted to Open or Save using the following url:

http://Site-URL/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://Site-URL/FormLibraryName/Forms/template.xsn&SaveLocation=http://Site-URL/FormLibraryName&Source=http://Site-URL/FormLibraryName&DefaultItemOpen=1

I found it will open the form outside of the browser and without the Open/Save prompt whether I use the DefaultItemOpen=1 parameter or not.

Where do you want the user to go after they close the form? You could add the Source param and use that URL for the value... I don't know if adding a source param is going to make a difference. I don't recall us doing anything special with the server at all for this to work.

I used your url string leaving off the Source parameter but still unable to get the form to open without the browser address bar as part of the tab order. It could be a server configuration I don't have access to.

You can see I have the source parameter included - mine is complicated because it goes back to another form. I also have a SaveLocation param.... I don't get a prompt to save or open the XSN.

This format works perfectly for a list form... http://servername/sitecollection/Lists/Shipping/newform.aspx The list form opens without a prompt. I'd like to duplicate this for a library form.

Another question... with your hyperlink, are you getting a prompt to open or save the template.xsn

An additional mouse click I would prefer not to have.

Interesting. What format are you using for your hyperlink? I am using the format below and it is opening in a browser with the address bar at the top. When I open it from the library, the form opens as if it was a filler form.

Hi Hilary,

I knew I could count on you to pull me in off the ledge.

I am using IE and IP2013. I am betting you are opening your form from the SP library using +Add document or New Document. Yes, it will work for me if I do that but I want my users to open the form from a hyperlink in the SP navigation bar on our landing page. Doing so opens the form in the web browser which will include the browser address bar and menu in the tabbing order. So question...do you have a solution to create a url for my hyperlink from the +Add document or the New Document links in a SP form library?

What browser are you using? I have a browser form, IP 2013, with a similar setup - -1 on all controls except the field for the barcode, which is 0, and it works as anticipated in Chrome and IE.

I have created an IP2010 browser form. Due to it's design switching from view to view and the use of hyperlinks, I don't see using a Filler form as an option. I am using 2 text fields on my form to build a list of records generated by scanning barcodes. Field A is used to capture the barcode scan and validate it meets the criteria before a rule adds it to Field B, the list. This piece all works fine. A requirement is to scan with minimal keyboard input. My scanner is set to add a keyboard tab stroke after the scan which will fire the rule which adds the scanned barcode to the list. Again all this works fine.

The challenge is that I need the focus after each scan to stay on Field A. To accomplish this I set the tab index on all fields and sections with the exception of Field A to -1 and set Field A to 0. Therefore with each scan, the focus skips over all the other fields and comes right back to Field A. If this were a Filler form, life would be good. But it's not. My problem is with a browser form, after each scan the focus moves first to the browser address bar, then through all of the items on the browser toolbar.

Does anyone know of a method to keep the focus on a single field, Field A, when using a browser form?
