I know I was looking at this on a very large list where we wanted to have views that were filtered on an "Assigned To" column that was a person or group, and we could not add it as an indexed column. https://support.office.microsoft.com/en-us/article/Manage-lists-and-libraries-with-many-items-b8588dae-9387-48c2-9248-c24122f07c59?CorrelationId=ef6c61f6-40fc-4bc8-8703-b26dba56747b&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US#__creating_sharepoint_indexed has more info.

Re: Filter Large List and Display

I did some further reading and it seems that it just changes where the filter is applied. Even though it seems a query filter would be applied at server level it doesn't seem to be, unless the field is indexed in SharePoint.

This is a brilliant workaround. Just like to point out to anyone who reads this later on, you MUST index the columns on which you want to filter. Also, some columns can slow things down when they are indexed so use this carefully.

Re: Filter Large List and Display

It was kind of funny to me that I saw your question when I did - this is something I tested just last week, so I was aware that adding an index & querying worked in our enviro - thanks for letting me know that it worked for you!

Re: Filter Large List and Display

Hi Hilary,

Adding the Index to columns that I want to search on has worked, no other special requirements either which is PERFECT!

Thank you for taking the time to reply, can't believe we had over looked this in the past.

Regards,

Steven

Re: Filter Large List and Display

Hi Hilary,Thanks for the pointer. Then don't query this list on load in your form, but instead use the query fields to get back only the data you need - set the query fields that determine which data you want and then run the query from a rule.

Filter Large List and Display

Hi All,

I don't know if this is possible as a codeless solution, but here goes. I have a list which exceeds the SharePoint row limit, currently set at 5000 in my organisation. I need to draw data from this list into an InfoPath list form so that users can see the data.

I've tried REST services and they work fine when the limit is removed, there is a window in the evening when I can run any size load. However, I need a solution which works all day. So, is there a way I can filter the list on the server and return only the data I want which is less than 5k rows in order to bypass the limit, without code?

Regards,

Steve
