I'm trying to create a reasonably simple hardware asset database.

The first issue I've run into is when I try and create a drop down list on a InfoPath form that looks up a field on another list that also happens to be a lookup field. Instead of pulling back text, it pulls back a number, which I believe is the ID? I think this also affects my lookup fields that try and use one of those fields as a filter. The field displays no data, because I don't think the number is being considered a match of the text.

any advice would be greatly appreciated! I tried to keep the question as generic as possible to be of use to others. But I'd be happy to provide specific details and screenshots.
