If you don't add the nodes. Then...

If the form opens and the original requester field is blank, we can assume that the form is new. So, add a rule that sets the value of the original requested field IF it is blank. At that point, you're going to have the requester's information stored in main data source, and won't need to reference it from the secondary data connection.

Hope this helps.

Saving info retrieved via GetUserProfileByName

Hi,

I apologise if this has been answered but I could not find the answer through search.

I'm currently creating a new user request form where there are two approval steps required before the form can be passed on to the IT team to create the required credentials. A user accesses the form in sharepoint via a link, completes the form, enters the department managers email address and submits for approval. An email is sent to the requested manager who reviews the form and submits for approval by the IT manager. The IT manager receives an email requesting to review the form for approval. Once approved it's sent to the servicedesk team to create the required credentials.

Either manager can reject the form so when they reject, an email needs to be sent to the original requester advising of the rejection and why it was rejected. The problem is I can retrieve the original requesters details by using GetUserProfileByName data connection in the very first view but if another user opens the form it will update the details. Is there any way I can retrieve the original requesters details and save them in the first instance so that when the form is opened by another user, the details previously saved are not updated? Is there a more efficient way of sending the rejection notice to the original requester? If you have experience with Sharepoint workflows do you think it may be a better option to create a workflow? Currently when a manager clicks reject the view switches to another view requesting a reason for rejection.

I've been learning InfoPath over the last 3 to 4 weeks so if you know of a better way to go about this please let me know. Please also bare my experience in mind when responding as I can only digest so much info if it gets too technical.

Thank you for any assistance.

Kind regards

Vincent
