The Display Name is shown to the users in the dropdown options. The Value is what is actually stored in the XML file.

So when the users select a dropdown option and submit the form, then reopen the form - what's in the field? The ID. You would need to re-query the data connection to get the Display Name re-populated.

I suspect that this may be the first issue you are describing. You'll need to be careful about storing the value (ID?) vs the Display Name. You may even choose to store those in separate nodes (schema nodes that are not displayed on the canvas) so that you have those available for your other data connections.

Your second issue - I can't say that I understood, sorry!

Cascading Multiple Selection Drop-downs erroring on save

Hi All!

I have a multiple selection list box (Linked Regs) that is filtered based on the selection of another multiple selection list box (States). It appear to be working correctly (almost!), but there are two problems.
One: If a record has an entry in the Linked Reg field, then the ID is being displayed instead of the name.
Two: If a user attempts to select a new Linked Reg and save the record, Infopath is throwing an error.

I suspect that I have a conflict somewhere between the ID and Name field of the Linked Reg lookup list, but I can't find where the issue is, and a search of the forums did not turn up any similar issues. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I uploaded screenshots of the dropdown property dialogs to flickr:

Linked Reg Properties: http://www.flickr.com/photos/77633459@N02/6809799594/sizes/l/in/photostream/

States Properties: http://www.flickr.com/photos/77633459@N02/6809799538/sizes/l/in/photostream/

Additional info: The form is attached to a sharepoint list called Requirements that has two multiple selection lookup fields: 'States', and 'Linked Regs'. States is linked to a separate sharepoint list called States. Linked Regs is linked to a separate sharepoint list called 'RegCitations' that has also has a lookup field to the state list (but only a single value is allowed).

The intent is to allow a user to select multiple states for each requirement item, and then select the RegCitation items that apply, but only present RegCitation items that have state that matches the ones selected. For example, there may be 3 RegCitations that have 'CA' as the state. If a user creates a new requirement and selects only 'CA' as the state, then the 3 RegCitation items should be populated into the filtered multiple selection dropdown box.
