Thank you for posting and welcome to InfoPathDev!

Perhaps it has something to do with the SQL ID. If you want to create a new record, you have to create a new ID. So you probably need code for that..

If you want a codeless solution, you should check out DBXL. See Hilary's blog Using DBXL Submit with Existing SQL Data as an example.

There is a free evaluation of DBXL and you can download a trial here.

Thanks!

Copy details and create new record using InfoPath

Hi INFOPATHdev community. Quick question on the possibility of using InfoPath to do a couple of things with SQL Server.

I have already created a simple form that allows me to update a single table in a SQL Server database. The table is an inventory of certificates with name, contact information, expiration date, active/inactive status etc...

Using Infopath, I am able to select a certificate by name and exp date using a drop down list and then update the details, and submit it back to SQL Server.

An additional feature I'm interested in would be a renew option that would generate a new record for a certificate while keeping the old record for historic purposes. It would be really nice to pick a certificate from the drop down list and then click a "renew" button that would mark the certificate as inactive and create a new record with the name, description, and other details filled in. The operator could then enter a new expiration date, contact name, and service request number and then submit the new record.

Is it possible that Infopath can do this? If so, is it a VB script option, and is there a tutorial somewhere?

Thanks for reading,
