These IDs never get re-used, so if you delete item ID of 2 from a list, you'll never have another one in that list.

I don't understand this:

Christy Rohmer:

then the workflow rewrites the form and leaves everything blank.

The workflow is creating and submitting the XML? Why is it sometimes succeeding and sometimes not? If you look at the XML (open it in a text editor), you can see the nodes do not have values?

Can the end user open and edit these forms that are being created by the workflow? I ask because I'm curious about how you intend to handle a scenario where a user edits the XML that the workflow is creating and another user changes the list item that is supposed to update this XML....

Re: qrules form installation error

Hilary,

Hi again!! I have another issue not with qrules and was just wondering with your vast experience with InfoPath if you knew of a solution. If you know of a forum that would be a good place to submit this issue for help please suggest! The issue is as follows: Now that the individual repeating table items are placed in a custom list I need them back as an InfoPath form. I created a workflow that actually does this by creating an item in another library and populating the .xml template I created. It works fantastic...until an item within the custom list changes...then the workflow rewrites the form and leaves everything blank. So I am thinking in this instance the Create Item workflow action is incorrect to use for updates. I have tried the Update Item action however the ID's must be different between the Library and the custom list as I receive a workflow error: List Item not Found.

Thanks so much!

Christy

Re: qrules form installation error

I'm so glad it is up and running for you.
This form schema is different, and the relative paths are different.

Is employee a child of expense report? If so, the name would be

../../my:employee/my:name

You can modify these directly in the mapping file if you wish. I'm attaching an updated mapping that should have the correct XPaths for these fields.

That being said, one way you can figure out the relative paths is to act like you are going to add a rule to the repeating group in InfoPath. For the condition, select the higher level field you need the relative path to. Then, change the first box to "the expression" and InfoPath will show the relative path in the text field next to the first drop down.

Re: qrules form installation error

It's attached. I am using the Expense Template from InfoPath 2007 that you used in your blog directions. Thanks!

Re: qrules form installation error

Can you attach a screenshot of the data source for this form to the Options tab?

In this example, you would not use a relative path, since you didn't use the repeating table feature. When I look at your mapping, I see that IsRepeating is set to false, and that there is no repeating group specified. I'm going to assume that with this mapping, no matter how many items you have in your expense report, only the first one will submit... If you are going to submit repeating data and use relative XPath (relative to the repeating group) to get fields that are not inside the repeating group, you need to indicate this in your mapping.

So, you add this as another row in the mapping tool. The XPath needs to be relative to the RepeatTableFields node.
