So, make sure you can see on the form all the fields that are in play - drag the repeating group that has your secondary data source onto the form so you can see the values in the field you are filtering on. Add an expression box that contains whatever you are using to determine the current user in your filter (IP username funciton, some other formula, just make sure you can see the data).

Then you can look for why you aren't getting results. Is it a case issue? Are you comparing JSmith to jsmith? XPath is case sensitive, so those two strings won't be equal....Just one thing you can investigate - but unless you get the data where you can see it to troubleshoot, it is going to be hard to track down the issue.

Limiting Project List by username

Hi All

Hoping you can help an infopath newbie out.

Here is the scenario: environment- office365 - sharepoint online

I have a sharepoint list - containing Projects eg. Project name, Company etc etc, usual stuff.

I have users booking time against these projects and storing the data in another list( ie time sheet detail list)

What i want to do is only let users book time against the projects that they are permitted to.

So i created 5 fields in the projet list( to allow 5 possible users to be granted permission) - called TB1, TB2... you get the idea. (they get their data from a consultant profiles list)

On each project i then record who can book time to the project in these fields( TB1...)

Then on the time sheet detail page - i change my combo box lookup ( in infopath designer), to filter the data based on the current logged in user.

Life is never easy, so i see that there are 2 hurdles.

1. The project list fields TB1, TB2.... get their data from a Consultant profiles list in sharepoint, so they contain the ID's from this linked list, not the actual usernames

2. The username function does not return the users displayed name, but instead their full domain name.

OK so i can get a users name with username function, and display this in an info path field

I can create a combo box that gets data from the consultant profiles list and displays the list ID hence the ID recorded in my target list ( project list)

Back to the original problem, So i set a filter on the project list data to say, only display projects where field TB1 = the currentuser.

Here is the problem- all this works great for me, but when i log in as another test user, i get no projects returned.

If i remove the filter on the project list combo box then i see all projects.

There seem to be something strnge about doing the lookup to the Consultant Profiles, when logged in as the other test user.

I have promoted the test user to the same admin level as my account.

I have checked that i can read and edit all the lists from the test users account.

Its just when i add the filter to the project list combo box, i get no data returned for thsi user, but it works fine for me.

Any ideas

I attach a form templat that contains the salient fields for this problem

Cheers

Modus
