Yes it is an SQL database. I shall do some more research and see how I get on. Thanks again

Re: running SQL queries through infopath

Okay, I don't know what an Exposure database is - is it a SQL DB? Or some other server product? If it is SQL, you should be able (in general) be able to use InfoPath to make updates, yes.

Re: running SQL queries through infopath

First of all thank you for the detailed answer. Greatly appreciated.

I use a programme called RiskLink which has a number of databases in it which are in SQL. My job involves importing 2 tab delimited text files which create an account in my EDM (Exposure database) in RiskLink. When I started my job I used Access queries to update certain tables in my EDM once they were imported but recently to do more complicated updates I use SQL queries.

From what you're saying with the limited information I originally gave you it sounds like InfoPath would be ideal for making an interface to enter all the relevant information I need to update in my database.

Does that sound right?

Many thanks

Re: running SQL queries through infopath

Hi - you are using Access and SQL queries to update a single database?

The thing with InfoPath is you can create a form off a database to use the built in SQL submit functionality (is your target database SQL or Access?)

And so you could base a form off your target database, then add different controls bound to the data fields to make it easier for you to submit data - but it is a pretty basic insert or update scenario - is that what you need to do?

And you can add secondary data connections to other databases (which it sounds like is currently part of your process) to get the info you need to update /submit.

So, in theory, with the level of detail you've provided, I'd say that yes, you could do this in InfoPath. This may be a good place to start - it is for IP 2007, but Office Online should be pretty easy for finding articles applying to 2010, if you are using that instead.

running SQL queries through infopath

Hi,

I'm completely new to this. In my current job I have to use many access and SQL queries to update a database. I have been trying to find something in which I could design an interface in which I can run these queries. I was hoping to make a form with various tabs, drop down menus, and tables which I could fill out in one go then click apply and it would apply all the changes I have made in the various tabs to the database.

Is this something I could do in infopath?

Many thanks
