Another excellent tool is the U2U CAML query editor - you can find it for free here.

Oh, and I adore this online URL decoder / encoder as well.

Hopefully if someone else knows of a reference, s/he will chime in.

CAML Question to submit form to SP List

Very new to InfoPath, SharePoint and XML. I've read the excellent Matt Faus and Scott Heim articles on how to submit a form to a SP list by using a CAML document. This works in the example the provide but I'm now writing the CAML document for an existing list and having trouble with the field types and field names. If the name is simple (e.g. Project Manager) it's no problem, I just insert the _x0020_ for the space and it works. But when I have special characters (e.g. Cost Estimate (IT) ) I'm having problem accounting for the parentheses in the field name. I'm also having some trouble with the SharePoint field types (i.e. Person or Group, Currency, Choice, Number). I've tried to find references that would tell me how to account for these in the CAML document but am not having much luck. If someone could tell me how to account for special characters like parentheses and slashes in field names and the various field types I would greatly appreciate it. Even better would be a link to a reference site or book that I could use going forward. Any help is greatly appreciated.
