And as long as that table has a unique ID, you can submit to that database.

Just go to create a new form and select database as the option.

The only web service I use is for AD authentication.

I realize that you are asking for help in building your own web services to submit the InfoPath data to SQL. You certainly can do that, however, we have many customers who have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and have found our DBXL tool (http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/DBXL.aspx) which is a generic web service to be a great and inexpensive alternative compared to doing it yourself.

We do offer a free trial of the software, you may want to consder it instead of doing this on your own.

I'm going to start out with a form with two fields and a submit button. (very simple)

I'm no programmer, where is the best place to start looking for a very simple tutorial on building a web service to talk to a sql database?
I have access to visual studio 2008
